The coffee crash.
Founders Maryanna and Will discovered matcha after years of relying on coffee to get through the day. The routine was familiar — a morning cup to get going, another to stay focused, and the inevitable crash by mid-afternoon.
Jittery. Anxious. Running on empty.
02 — The Discovery
Then matcha changed everything.
Unlike coffee, matcha delivers its caffeine slowly — bound to an amino acid called L-theanine that promotes calm, focused energy without the spike and crash.
No jitters. No anxiety. No 2pm collapse. Just clean, sustained energy that lasts.
03 — The Gap
But finding the real thing was a problem.
Most matcha available in the US was low quality, poorly sourced, and overpriced for what it was. The real thing — stone-ground, shade-grown, premium grade matcha from Japan — was either locked behind luxury price points or buried under vague marketing claims.
So they built Greenboxed.
